I'm not comparing President-elect Barack Obama to the Messiah (Biblical) or the Moshiach (Toraic). Personally, I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian environment for seven years with my paternal grandparents. Those seven years (approximately at the age of 7 to 14) were the best years of my life and my formative years.

On my maternal side, due to my maternal lineage (mother's mother's mother was born and raised in a Sephardic Orthodox Jewish Portuguese home in Jamaica, West Indies) as per Orthodox Rabbinical Law, I am Jewish (only by blood). Albeit, I do not custom Judaism and I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Personal Savior. You might say the Christ was the greatest Gift to humankind from the Jews (God used them as a vehicle). Today, of course, agreeing to Martin Luther, the elect - saved by Grace - hence, saved sinners are spiritual Jews via the New Covenant. The New covenant didn't break away from the Old covenant but fulfilled the Old Covenant. Thus, we are no longer saved by the Law (Old Covenant) but by Grace (New Covenant) because we were not able to live up to the demands of the Law.

So, God the Father sacrificing Jesus the Son on the Cross replaced Abraham the father sacrificing Isaac (replaced by a ram) on an altar. Likewise, Israel's first King Saul (from the 12th Tribe of Benjamin) was anointed to conquer the world (i.e., Edom) by the sword (war) while the Christ's 12th Disciple (replacing Stephen [murdered by Saul] who replaced Judas) Saul (name changed to Paul) was anointed to conquer the world (Jews & Gentiles) by the Sword (the Word - the Love - the Peace). Critics might advocate that the Old Covenant's G-d was bloody and a Lover of war & genocide/holocaust in comparison to the more loving and peaceful New Covenant's God. I strongly beg to differ on the grounds that the Old covenant G-d chose King Solomon (a man of true peace and a lover of harmony with his neighbors - who believed in marrying your enemies' daughters instead of killing their sons) to build the Bet HaMikdash - "The Holy House/Temple" instead of King David (a bloody man of war) although he was after God's own Heart. After all, aren't they the same God - Alpha and Omega?

Basically, I only put my absolute trust and faith in Jesus - yep, you may call me a Jew for Christ.

I riposte that I will continue to get love letters from my true Christian and Jewish friends. Oh well, I love you, too. Great, let's move on from my philosophical hors d'oeuvres (disclaimer) to the entrée (about President-elect Obama and his controversial picks for his cabinet).

The Entrée

In my last two published articles, I expressed my skepticism about clear Obama's picks for his cabinet. The picks that come to mind are Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel (a rabid pro-war activist although a democratic leader; then again so is Senator Lieberman); Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner (an architect of the current economic disaster); Economic counselor Lawrence Summers (another architect of the current economic disaster), and others. Libertarians (i.e., Antiwar.com) and the Progressive Left (i.e., Moveon.org, Huffingtonpost.com and Msnbc investigator Chris Matthews) echoed my sentiments.

After second thoughts, I decided not to second guess President-elect Obama. For instance, didn't Jesus select Judas as one of His truthful disciples? Didn't Jesus know of Judas' program before the Betrayal? Of course, He did. Who was Judas Iscariot and why did he betray the Christ? Judas Iscariot was a thief (as depicted in the Gospels) who Jesus assigned as His Treasury Secretary (he carried the group's purse) for His cabinet. However, many Bible scholars didn't perceive that Judas was also a revolutionary and a hidden financier of insurrection/terrorism (ask the Romans, King Herod and Governor Pontius Pilate).

Allow me to play devil's advocate on Judas' behalf.... Judas loved Jesus and believed He was the Messiah. On the other hand, Judas was a patriot and wanted his nation to be freed from the yoke of the Roman Empire. Consequently, he financed rebellious campaigns led by Terrorist (or most might argue he was a free time fighter; beauty undoubtedly is in the eyes of the beholder) Barabbas (or Bar-Kochba). Yes folks, this is the same Barabbas spared crucifixion in lieu of the King of kings.

Judas conception that Jesus came to replace the Roman Empire with the New Jerusalem in his lifetime. Unfortunately, he misinterpretated Jesus' motive - His Second arrival would be when New Jerusalem is established. Realizing that Jesus was teaching too much "love thy neighbor as thyself," Judas conception he could get Jesus to act if He was forced into a corner. Following his logic, he plotted Jesus' betrayal with the Pharisees and the Sadducees for 30 pcs of silver. Alas, he realized that his favorite expert Jesus' time to rule the world was not at hand nor while his lifetime - not while his First Coming. Judas was saddened by his betrayal and for misreading his Master's intentions. Judas, like defeated Roman centurions, German field marshals, Japanese Samurai and Jamaican Maroon warriors, committed suicide to withhold his honor. Unfortunately, in Judeochristianity, suicide like blasphemy is an unforgivable sin. For example, a defeated King Saul ordered his armor bearer to kill him whereas he would avoid killing himself. Again, the story of Judas was a story of love and tragedy - unfortunately for his soul, too.

Returning to Obama, let's hope that the President-elect knowingly select a Judas Iscariot as part of a greater plan - for the greater tasteless good of the people as per the U.S. Constitution.
